You’ve seen them around for years – you probably haven’t heard them as they barely make a sound – Electric Cars!

Tesla is one of the first manufacturers who embraced the idea of an all-electric vehicle being cool, fun and economical all at the same time! Now Tesla is installing a supercharging station to power up Tesla vehicles at the Lehigh Valley Mall here in Allentown!

Why a mall for the location Commissioner Philips Armstrong said “it will give people something to do while they charge their cars.”

Not only will this be an economic boost for the Lehigh area, it will potentially entice others to purchase electric or hybrid vehicles.

The Tesla in particular is a very attractive option, it’s most popular model the Model S won awards such as the 2013 World Green Car of the Year, 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year, Automobile Magazine's 2013 Car of the Year, Time Magazine's Best 25 Inventions of the Year 2012 award and Consumer Reports' top-scoring car ever. At a Supercharger Station, a Model S can get a half a charge in as little as 20 minutes, allowing for long-distance travel without having to pay a cent for gas or electricity. By charging only at Superchargers, Model S owners can drive for free, forever. Free! Can you imagine driving for free forever!

Not everyone is up to a Tesla, but as more and more people realize the benefits of driving electric or hybrid cars, the companies that insure gas-powered vehicles are now discovering that offering insurance for these new models offers new challenges, many yet unknown.

Most insurance companies will cover an electric or hybrid car by the major car manufacturers, but before you buy either you will want to confirm with your agent that you can get coverage and that it is the coverage you want (some companies provide limited coverage). As the market grows perhaps so too will your coverage options, but for now it is best to double check.
