Full Tort vs. Limited Tort

When shopping for automobile insurance, getting the lowest premium may seem like a good idea at the time but do you really know what you are paying for when you need it?

Over 2 million people are injured or disabled in automobile accidents each year in the United States and approximately 37,000 are killed in car crashes.  According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 35,200 people died in car accidents in 2015. That is a 7.7% increase in motor vehicle traffic deaths compared to reports in 2014.*

When we get behind the wheel we don’t think about the dangers on the road. There are many distractions out there such as drunk drivers, people texting while driving, using a navigation system or even adjusting a radio station. Things can happen in a split second when people are distracted. Your driving record could be great and you practice safety while driving- but what about other drivers you share the road with?

Having enough coverage will give you some peace of mind in the event you get into an accident and you are injured due to your own or someone else’s negligence. There are many competitors out there who appeal to those looking for a deal on car insurance. The problem is when you need your insurance company to help you recover, did you buy enough coverage?

Knowing the difference between Limited Tort vs. Full tort will help you make the right decision.
Of course with limited tort you will have a lower premium if you go for the lowest payment you can get but what about your loss if you get into an accident, sustain injuries and your insurance company takes care of the other driver?

Full tort gives covered individuals the ability to sue for all damages. Yes, your premium is higher than limited tort but you have the peace of mind that you may proceed to sue for medical expenses.
With limited tort you forfeit economic loss and quality of life post injury.
If you get into an accident you are left to figure out how to manage your pain and suffering if you get injured.
