Did you know, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, that the leading cause of non-crash related fatalities for young children is heatstroke? Very young children (under the age of 4) are in the greatest danger as they have not developed the same temperature controls as adults, and can warm three to five times faster.
You should also be aware, the danger is not just to humans, your pet too is susceptible to heatstroke. Dogs can not sweat and as such are even more likely to experience heatstroke.
A study done by General motors found that a cars temperature can rise 19 degrees in 10 minutes and 34 degrees in 30 minutes!
During the summer months also be sure to test the seat temperature, buckles, door handles, etc before having your children jump in to prevent burns; remember your child is not as hardened as you! Using blinds or covers when your car is parked will help keep the danger at bay.
Keep your loved ones safe this summer! Be a good neighbor, If you see a parked car with a child or animal call 911 immediately, remember it only takes minutes for the cars temperature to rise to unsafe levels.
